II Chronicles 3:1 Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
The temple is being built in a special place. It was David that had it in his heart to build the temple. It was David’s hunger for God that was being expressed in this great act of devotion.
They build the temple where God met with David. It was the threshing floor of Ornan. David had wanted to make an offering to God. David had angered God. He needed mercy. He goes to Ornan to see if he can build his altar there.
Ornan offers him the land as a gift. David will not offer to God when it costs him nothing so he buys the land, the threshing floor. God met with David. God stopped the chastisement that the angel was bringing on David and his people.
So the temple will be built where God forgave and showed mercy. What a wonderful picture of our great God.
