II Kings 25:27 And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the year that he began to reign did lift up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison;
Jehoiachin only lasted 3 months as the new king. He was 18 years old at the time. He led his people to surrender to the enemy. Jeremiah had prophesied this humiliating event.
The Babylonians stole the treasures from the temple and stripped all the gold that they could find
Jehoiachin was a prisoner in Babylon for thirty-seven years and finally gets released in this verse by Nebuchadnezzar’s son and heir, Evil-Merodoch.
He remained in exile but was treated kindly. What a sad story! Much of what happened was due to sin in the country before his time. God’s people often suffer the consequences of those who have gone before.
I want to leave things in better shape for my children. My obedience, my example, my life could help my children get a better start and life or it could do the opposite. I plan on living in such a way as to leave a godly heritage to my children!
