Bitterness

II Samuel 14:33 So Joab came to the king, and told him: and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king kissed Absalom.

The king, David, refuses to see his son Absalom. He has finally allowed him to come back and live in Jerusalem. Absalom has now been living in Jerusalem two years but his daddy still refuses to see him.

Absalom burns Joab’s fields to get Joab’s attention. Finally Absalom gets to see his dad. He is willing to die if he has done anything wrong. I see so much how the bitterness and hurt is destroying this relationship and family. If you allow a root of bitterness in your heart it will hurt many.

David is hurt. Absalom is hurt. No one will talk about it. This makes for disastrous results. When we know we have been wrong we need to take steps to get it right. We need to be willing to talk, to forgive, and to let go of the hatred in our hearts.

This bitterness is destroying David, Absalom, their family and even affecting the kingdom. Let’s be careful to see this and see how to get things right!
