II Samuel 7:14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: 15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
God gives David a promise about his son Solomon. It is a picture, a foreshadowing, of what happens with us in our salvation.
God promised David that He would be a Father to Solomon. Solomon would be like His son. If Solomon sinned then God would punish him but He would still love him. God would punish him but not leave him.
Isn’t that a beautiful picture of what happens with us today. We are His children. He is a Father to us. He does discipline us, but He never stops loving us. He doesn’t stop being our Father.
So if you are being disciplined that is a good thing. He disciplines His children but He doesn’t throw them away.
So as you experience discipline consider that He loves you. You belong to Him. He will not leave you, abandon you, or quit loving you! You are His son. He is your Father!
