II Samuel 4:11 How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?
David doesn’t need to protect his position. He doesn’t need to kill all of his enemies or the family of his enemies. Men come to him that have killed one of Jonathan’s sons. David is angry and puts them to death.
This is a time of establishing David’s reign as king yet David doesn’t want to seek vengeance. David is not trying to ensure his throne. He is trusting God to take care of him.
Far too often I want to defend myself. I want to hurt those that hurt me.
God is not pleased with this attitude. He is in charge of protecting us. He is the One who will care for us.
