Deuteronomy 28:58 If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD; 59 Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.
God wanted His people to know that His Words were not to be read and discussed but to be lived out. He taught His people His Word. He expected them to live out what He said. His Words were His instructions on how to live.
If they would obey Him then they would be greatly blessed. If they didn’t obey Him then horrible things would happen. This wasn’t a threat but reality. He wanted them to realize that He knew what they needed to do. He had their best interests at heart.
Remember there are sacrifices that can be offered when they fail. He knew that they would fail. But His instructions would still insure great living if they would simply take them as being from a God who loved them and was at work in their lives.
