Genesis 44:30 Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad’s life;
Joseph has been tormenting his brothers. Now Benjamin’s life is in danger. The cup was found in his sack. He will become Joseph’s servant forever. Judah is doing all he can to spare Benjamin’s life. He is willing to give his life.
As I read this story I notice that they are concerned for their dad because his life is bound up in the life of Benjamin like it had been in the life of Joseph. When Jacob thought that Joseph was dead it nearly destroyed his life. He is basically a walking dead man. The sons know that if they do not get Benjamin home it will only be worse.
I began to think of what there is in my life that very likely is like this same attitude. I am so hung up on something that my life is bound up in it. Something or someone so dominates my life that I would rather be dead than lose them.
The truth is that my life should be bound up in God and His will. I know that it is not like it should be. As a child of God I need to remember that He is worth more to me than anything or anyone. He is the reason I should live or die!
