20 pieces of silver

September 29, 2015 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

Genesis 37:28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery. They get the price of an ordinary slave. They simply want to be rid of him. They want to stop his dreams. They want to get rid of their dad’s favorite.

All of their evilness will play right into God’s plans. God uses the foolishness of man to still accomplish His purposes. Joseph didn’t die. Joseph will be carried to Egypt which is exactly where God wants him to be.

He will go to the school of hard knocks for a total of 13 years. He will learn administration. He will learn to lead. What has to seem like the most horrible thing ever will turn into God preparing him for the ministry He has for Joseph.

There are horrible things happening in all of our lives. We must believe that there is a higher purpose. We must know that God uses everything that ever happens to bring Himself honor and glory.

He uses all of this to prepare us to do greater things for Him. So what seems horrible is really just what Joseph needs.

That is hard to accept. God has allowed all of this to happen in my life to bring me to this day, this ministry, this place where He wants to use me! Trust God!
