Genesis 36:6 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob. 7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle.
Both Esau and Jacob have been living in the land of Canaan. They separate because they just have too much money, too many animals to be able to live close to each other. The cattle need too much space to get enough to eat.
So Esau will go one way and Jacob will go another. They will form two large families and kingdoms. Esau, also called Edom, will go to Seir. Jacob and Esau will never really get along after all that has happened.
I wonder why we allow so much to divide us and hurt our relationships. I wonder why money, possessions, etc can be such a divisive thing. Canaan had a good chance of knowing the gospel. They could see two brothers that were sons of the man of God, Isaac.
I want to live like God and His will matter more to me than money etc. I want my life to count for His honor and glory. I want to make a difference in the world around me. I want to seek first His kingdom and His glory!
