Genesis 29:20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.
Jacob has to work 7 years in order to marry Rachel. He works those 7 years and they seem but a few days to him because of who he was doing it all for. He was working for Rachel. He put in the long hours but there was joy in his heart.
He could deal with the sun, the bugs, the dust because she was worth it. What could have been hard wasn’t so hard for him.
As I read this verse I think of my service to God. Why do we complain and act like He has asked us to carry such a load? Why do we not see what we do as light because of who we are doing it for?
God is so good to us. He has saved us. He has given us life and life more abundant. He deserves our service. Yet we ask, how can we balance what we do for Jesus with our family? We ask if someone is asking too much when we serve God? Seems kind of foolish when you think in terms of a man loving a woman–but then that is different??
I want to love Jesus and serve Him. I want to do so without acting like it is such a heavy burden. Don’t you?
