Genesis 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
God wants to be loved and respected more than anything else on the planet. He calls on Abraham to sacrifice his son. This is a test to see who Abraham loves more. Does Abraham love his son more? Will he run from God to protect his son? Does he love God more? Will he give up what has been the dream of his life for the love of his God?
Abraham passes the test. He is willing to sacrifice his son to please God. That is all God wanted to see and prove to Abraham.
I think in terms of us. Do we love God more than anything else? Troubles come and we lose things that are important to us. Do we get mad at God because our stuff was more important than He is?
You do realize that He will not be calling on you to sacrifice your children but we are called on regularly to show that He is more important. How do we react when we lose something we love? How do we handle discouragement, which usually means that things didn’t turn out the way we wanted?
If we choose God in every circumstance and situation we are proving that we love Him. If we allow the loss of things to drive us away then we prove that we never loved Him more than those things.
What a lesson for me today!
