II Kings 13:18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.
I call this message the King of Apathy. He took the arrows and only struck the ground 3 times. The man of God got angry. You might wonder if he thought it was just the foolish ramblings of the old man of God but in the previous verse you find:
II Kings 13:17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD’s deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
Apparently the King of Israel didn’t believe that Elisha was telling the truth or knew what he was talking about. That is why he would not excitedly strike the ground.
Isn’t it easy to sort of just be “ho hum” with the things of God when you don’t believe them or think that maybe they do not apply to you.
Take God at His Word. Act on it.
