Deuteronomy 24:5 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.
When a Jewish man first got married he was to work at making a happy home. He was to take that first year and make his wife happy. He was not to be sent to war. He was not to be sent away on business. His main job was making a beautiful home.
I would like to challenge all of you to think of how to strengthen your marriage. I do not want missionaries rushing to the field right after they get married. I think this verse teaches us the reason why.
I hope you will always put your home second right after God. Loving your wife and building a strong home is more important than any ministry. It is actually a prerequisite to being in ministry. If you do not know how to lead your own home then you will not succeed in ministry.
