Where do we even start? What a wonderful day! We call our anniversary service “Celebration Sunday” and it most certainly lived up to its name! Starting at 9 am the church building was buzzing with activity. People were there setting up their classes, bringing in food, and ready to greet our visitors. We had just over 190 people in our Adult Bible Fellowships and Sunday School time. My father-in-law taught the Connect Couples ABF. He told us he found it exciting to be able to look around and see so many other classes teaching the Bible as he was teaching.
As it has become our tradition, a few of the high school young men came over to pastors office (read corner of the building) to pray with the pastor. On this Sunday, they were able to pray with our pastor as well as Pastor Wayne Cofield, who would be preaching that morning.
Vision Baptist Church was started in 2006 as a church plant from Whitfield Baptist Church in Dalton, GA. Pastor Wayne Cofield was our special guest preacher for the morning service. He shared a wonderful message about how God’s grace has been evidently shown through Vision Baptist Church. God has allowed us to send out 20 missionary families, give over almost 1.2 million to missions, and see many people come to the saving knowledge of Christ in our community. It was a wonderful reminder that what we are enjoying and seeing at Vision is coming directly from the hand of God!
After our morning service, we had our annual Chili Cook Off and Dessert Contest. It was great to see so many people stay for a meal and the afternoon service. We had 251 for the morning service and 167 stayed for the meal and afternoon service. The cake in the picture above did not win the dessert contest. Can you believe it? We did not let Mrs. Andria Gardner participate in the friendly competition. As you can see, she is in a league of her own. What is more surprising than the fact the entire cake is editable is the fact that tastes awesome! She does not sacrifice taste for decoration. She makes cakes for special occasions. You should contact her if you have a need of a cake for a special event. Call the church office, and we will provide all of her information.
Warren Frick won in the Best Tasting division of the Chili Cook Off. Elizabeth Ewing won a trophy for a unique chili. I had both of the chilis, and they were wonderful. Sherry Penland won Best Looking Dessert for her brown sugar cheesecake with a pecan pie bottom. Lydia Littlefield won the prize for the Best Tasting Dessert. I have never seen more desserts in once place in my whole life!
Pastor Tony Howeth preached for our afternoon service. Our hearts were stirred as we reminded of some wonderful truths from God’s Word. The Howeth was vital in the starting of our church. Bro. Tony filled the pulpit on many occasions as Pastor Gardner traveled as well as helped provide training and leadership to our missionary training programs. In the service, we heard from the Coffey, Snode, and Holt families as they congratulated the church on nine wonderful years! Pastor Gardner expressed his appreciation to our deacons, pastoral staff, volunteers, and yoke-fellows. Our pastor’s attitude of gratefulness is contagious and has permeated the culture of our church. We also heard a testimony from the first person saved in our churches ministry who is now our Spanish Pastor! We have several special singing groups who did an amazing job helping us focus on heart on Christ.
There is not time to slow down! This afternoon a group of men are meeting at the church to get ready for the installation of the new carpet. Big steps have been taken towards our moving to our new property! Kanon Bloom leaves tomorrow for his six-month internship to China. We have nearly a dozen leaving for India today! So much is happening in our church, and our great God deserve all the praise! I can’t wait to see what this year holds for us!
