Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
You have to choose. That is what makes this verse so hard. You have to love only one. You can’t serve God and mammon, money, material things, anything but God.
It is an either or proposition. You have to not only choose to put God first, you have to hate the other. If you choose money then you are saying that you hate God.
Tell me that this isn’t a hard verse. I would say that most of us want both. We want to love God and put Him first but we want money and need it. We even say that we will use it for all the right reasons.
But He says, you have to choose. You have to hate one and love the other.
So decide what you will live your life for. It will either be money and things or God. If God wants to give us things He can but that isn’t at question here.
I want to serve God. I want to say that I have chosen but that desire for money and things keeps raising its ugly head in my heart and life.
What do you think? Is it a hard verse for you too?
