Jeremiah 16:11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law; 12 And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:
Jeremiah warns the people that God is judging them because they have turned from their God. They have chosen to follow other gods. They have not follow what He taught them to do.
It all started with their fathers. They probably learned it from their fathers but now they are doing worse than their fathers. They are all doing whatever is in their heart and not what God said to them.
How does this apply to me? It was written to the nation of Israel not us. It is not a message to individuals but to a nation but there are still great, applicable, lessons here.
As fathers we teach our children. They learn from us and often do worse than us. I need to be careful how I teach my children because they will take what I do and go further with it.
Secondly, I am personally responsible and can not blame my parents because I am doing worse than they ever did.
Thirdly, God doesn’t want me doing what I imagine but rather what He taught so I should get into His Book and learn it. The Word of God should be lived out in me as His son!
