Proverbs 11:24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; And there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. 25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: And he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
Proverbs are just that, proverbs. They are not necessarily promises but they have been seen true for so long that people understand them to be generally true. As the wiseman speaks with his son he tells him that he has noticed something over the years.
The stingy usually don’t get rich. Givers tend to have it given to them. Some just seem to be sharing the wealth and getting more. Others hold on to more than they need but still live in poverty. Givers get fat, or prosper. Those that water others get watered.
How are you as a giver? Are you afraid that if you become a giver you will end up worse off financially? Do you think that keeping is the answer to not losing?
The wiseman had learned that what appears to be true is the opposite of what you might expect.
A good reminder as we approach a season of giving.
