Who can you disciple

September 11, 2014 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

I Samuel 22:2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

The question is often asked “where can I find disciples?” The people who ask this question are most often looking for men or women who are in good shape and have tons of potential.

Maybe we are looking in the wrong place. David is going to build a great kingdom and accomplish great things for God but the men that he is going to use will come from this group. Look at the description.

The Bible says that “everyone” was in distress, debt and / or discontent. The men that will soon rule the world and win battle after battle were men who had no where else to go.

They were defeated men. They ran to David in the wilderness. They gave up what little they had to be used of God and serve with David. Later we will read about a group of mighty men that serve with David. Where did they come? Could it be that there is a mighty man underneath all that mess?

Could it be that inside the discontented, in distress, and in debt there is the potential to be a leader of leaders. Have double vision. See deeper than others see.

Meet their needs and give them something to do and the rest will be history.
