I Thessalonians 2:2 But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
Paul writes to remind them that he has suffered and been mistreated in Philippi but yet he continues on telling others about Jesus. Even after the mistreatment he still faced contention. In other words, it never seemed to end. Mistreated here, contention there, but we continue on doing what God has called us to do.
I wonder how often we use a little hurt feelings as a reason to not do what God wants us to do. The problem isn’t that we do not know what to do. The problem is that we are too focused on how people treat us.
If we are appreciated we continue. If they treat us poorly or down right wrong we quit.
The truth is that we will always have problems. There will always be plenty of reason to quit. We will all deal with discouragement that makes us think that we want to give up but it is never the right thing to do.
We continue on in spite of bad treatment because our eyes are not on ourselves or others but on Jesus who we love and worship. He is worthy of whatever cost we have to pay to serve Him.
To us it is our reasonable sacrifice. People know that you have had it rough but you should look past that to do what you were made to do. Let’s keep serving Jesus.
