Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
I do not know how many times we think that we are something or that we bring something to God that He really needs. We look in the mirror and somehow consider ourselves a gift to God. We think that He needs us. We fool ourselves into thinking that our might and power, our intelligence and wit, our work and sweat, get the job done for God. But He makes it clear here in this verse that He is the one that does His work.
He does allow us to participate but we should never get an exaggerated view of our own importance. We are to labor more abundantly than they all but all the time realizing that it is He that will do the work.
1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
That brings us to our real work. I believe that to be heart work. Seeking God in prayer. Soaking ourselves in His Word. Serving Him regardless of the results. Sharing His glory with everyone. It is His harvest. It is His work. We are but instruments in His hands. Let’s present ourselves a living sacrifice
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Let’s yield to His control
Romans 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
Let’s give all the glory for all that is done to Him. It is after all Him that is doing it!
