Jeremiah 20:9 “Then I said, I will not make mention of him, Nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, And I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.”
Jeremiah was being faithful to proclaim God’s message as he was told, yet things were not going well for him. On every turn, people were not listening and he was being persecuted. He got discouraged and decided to no longer speak in God’s name. He was fed up and determined to quit. But he could not keep silent. The Word of God in his heart had to get out. It was like a burning fire in his bones, and he could be quiet no longer.
Sometimes when we attempt to be faithful to God’s plan things don’t go super well. We face persecution and trials. These things may discourage us. It is good to know that we are not the only ones who have faced opposition for doing well and who felt like quitting. But in those times, we need to meditate on the Word of God, consider the importance of our job as God’s witnesses, and let it stir our hearts to keep on going for the Lord.
