Isaiah 28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; The priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, They are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; They err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
Here one of the reasons those in leadership erred was through wine and strong drink. It caused they to go out of the way, to err in vision, and to stumble in judgment.
Alcohol is a very dangerous thing especially for those in any kind of leadership position. Leading others is a great responsibility that requires clear vision, fair judgment, and good direction. Wine and strong drink cloud vision, distort judgment, and sidetrack leaders.
As leaders, we need to guard against anything that could be a stumbling block or weight in their life. Many people are counting on us, and we need to use great caution.
Today it is almost considered legalism to fear what alcohol can do to you but here in this passage it appears that you should still be very careful!
Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
What a condemnation? We draw near Him with our mouths but not our hearts. We talk the talk but do not walk the walk.
How often do we sing the battle cry of the church yet do so little to get the gospel to the world. Our churches have become bastions of the faith. We have it, we hold it, we hide it and have forgotten our purpose.
We no longer step out on nothing to get the gospel to the world and so see little of His power in our lives. WE teach by precept not by practice. We have words but not wisdom. We have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof.
It is not too late to change this in our generation. Will you rise up and obey Him Will you decide to get the gospel to the world. Will you risk it all to obey Him?
