II Chronicles 25:9 And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.
God’s people had hired foreign armies to protect them. It was Judah (Amaziah) hiring soldiers from Israel, actually! God was not with Israel. Amaziah had paid 100 talents to hire 100,000 soldiers. We are talking a lot of money.
When Amaziah found out that God was not going to bless him if he used the soldiers from Israel he immediately worried about his investment.
He felt compelled to use the army of Israel because if not he would have wasted so much money!
Have you ever invested money, time, or energy in something that you shouldn’t? Has that ever made you think that you couldn’t just walk away? I have been there.
That is what is going on in the story. The bad investment made Amaziah want to continue to do what he shouldn’t do!
Why does money have such a hold on me, us? Why do we make so many decisions based on money instead of what God wants?
Be careful to not let yourself get in so deep that you will not obey God. Never allow something you did wrong already motivate you to do more wrong!
