I Kings 1:6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.
Adonijah the son of David decides that he will be king. David is getting older and more feeble. Apparently Adonijab felt like he was next in line to be the king.
David had promised Bathsheba that her son would be king. David seems to know nothing of the plot that Adonijah is leading. Adonijah will soon be gone. His dreams crushed.
The real lesson of this verse may be that David never displeased his son. He didn’t do whatever needed to be done to cause him to know what was right or wrong. He never understood that he couldn’t just get his way.
He was used to getting what he wanted and it ends up costing him everything.
