Romans 16:1 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: 2 That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.
What a recommendation for a lady at the church of Rome. She was a servant of the church. Paul wanted them to receive her and help her because she had been such a help to him and many others.
The word used here is succorer which means she was a benefactor, patron, helper, protectress! This word is not used of any other in the entire New Testament. She was a major supporter of the church and the men of God.
I think sometimes that no one wants that job any more. Imagine Paul writing about you to others and saying what a blessing you had been. Apparently she was a major financial backer of the work and men of God. She looked at the work and saw what needed to be done and assisted to get it done.
I would think this would be a worthy goal for any of us to follow!
