Exodus 6:7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
The way God gets Israel out of Egypt is all on purpose. He wants Israel to know that God is God. He wanted them to know that He had done something special, that He had proven Himself.
Had He of allowed them to get out without the plagues it could have been a good Pharaoh or a very astute Moses. But the plagues put the emphasis where it belonged. It was God that got them out! It was God that moved and caused Egypt to let them go!
We are so prone to think that we did something. If it comes easy enough we will not realize that it was God’s hand. We will take credit for what He does. We want to think well of ourselves. We really don’t like to think about God all that much. We say we do but the evidence points in another direction.
So the next time you are asking God to do something you might think of how He is going to prove that He did it! It is not how effectively you pray, how wise you are, how good you are but how good He is!
He wanted Israel to know it was He that got them out of Egypt.
