Job 38:1-2 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, 2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
As a preacher I found this one to be interesting. Elihu gives the best counsel but still fails to help Job. God scolds him with these words, who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge.
I have been so guilty of this. As a preacher I have been filled with my own importance and sought to speak for God, to defend Him. I didn’t use the same terms that Elihu did but they are an interesting comparison.
Maybe we should be more careful before we speak:
Job 32:9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.
10 Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.
17 I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.
18 For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.
19 Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.
20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.
Excuse my ramblings today but I find these words so funny when I think of how often I have sounded that way!
