Exodus 22:14 And if a man borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good. 15 But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire.
God laid out explicit rules about most everything for the Jewish people. I have always liked this one in particular. If you borrow something you are responsible for it if it breaks. However if the owner is there, you paid rent or hired it, then it is the owner’s responsibility.
These were no backward people that didn’t have good and reasonable rules. They had God teaching them what to do.
I love this one because it makes so much sense. It is so obvious but i know so many never think that practically. The Word of God is wonderful. He wrote a book that by its very wisdom proves that it was well before its time.
How long before the court system would have figured out something so simple but a nomadic people wandering in the wilderness already had this rule!
