I Corinthians 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
If they come that do not know how things are done in church (unlearned) or those that do not believe (unbelievers) will they not think you are crazy (mad)?
Obviously, we should preach messages that edify and explain the gospel and help our people to grow. We expected anyone that came in to need a good lesson in morality and clean living. That is not really our message. We are not about what “we do not do” but what He has already done!
Christianity, true Christianity, is not about doing but believing. It is not about our effort or our works but rather the finished work of Jesus on the cross. So we needed the message that we ought to be careful how we do church. I am afraid that many of my brethren have preached “cherry picked” texts to get people to do what they wanted them to do. I fear that many have not made a practice of preaching the whole counsel of God.
That being said the church is still a church. And when people start attending it they will no longer be unchurched. We are not really trying to get them churched but rather saved, sanctified, and living a life that glorifies God.
