Acts 17:16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
Paul sees a city that is filled with idolatry and it breaks his heart. His spirit is stirred within him. He must do something about it. He will preach. He will try to persuade men about Jesus and the unknown God.
As I read this verse I consider our community, country, and the world and wonder why we are not more moved, stirred to do something to get the gospel to them. Is it that we do not believe that there really is a Hell? Is it that we do not believe that we can make a difference? Is it that we think of this as our religion and they have theirs? Is it that we think of church as just a part of our lives but not eternally important?
We must be stirred. We must realize what is happening around us! People are dying. Hell is moving. Jesus has commanded us to tell the world about His sacrifice and free offer of grace.
What will you do with your time, your talents, and your treasure that shows that you are moved and stirred?
