Deuteronomy 1:42 And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.
It is a common thought that Christians have that we will always get a second chance. We like to call God the God of the second chance but He doesn’t always give us a second chance. You should never count on getting another chance.
The children of Israel in this story have arrived at the promised land. They have sent 12 spies over. The spies have come back with a bad report about a good land. They have seen the enemy. They are afraid and the fear spreads.
God tells them that they will not be allowed to go into the promised land. He tells them that the children that they wanted to protect will make it in but they will not.
They repent. They are sorry. They decide to obey God but it is now too late. He says, if you go I will not go with you. You will be defeated by your enemies.
I am sure that they thought God was only threatening them and would give them a second chance but they will wander in the wilderness for the next 40 years. God did not give them another chance.
Don’t take lightly the word of God. Don’t think you can do what you want the first time and God will definitely give you another chance if your way doesn’t work out. He might but He might just not give you a second chance.
