Genesis 33:13 And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.
Jacob is traveling with his children and his herds. He makes a profound statement that we should take into account when we are pastoring and leading people. He said that those with him were tender and young. He warned that if they were overdriven they could be killed in just one day!
As pastors we are often guilty or at least I have been guilty of wanting people to grow faster than they are ready to grow. They need time. We want them to mature instantly. We do not wait on the Holy Spirit to work in their lives.
We have pushed and pulled and hurt many people. We have tried to impose from the outside what only God can really impose from the inside. We have played the Holy Spirit and we are not good at it.
We can develop outward conformity but not inward change, only He can.
That is why we focus on the “be” level. Let God work in them what He wants and at His speed. If we will just lovingly preach the Bible God will work in lives. Preach the good news. Live high Jesus and let God do the work.
If you push them you will kill them and we have killed many in just one day!
