Ezekiel 13:3 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!
What a horrible indictment! “God’s men” were following their own spirit and had no truth to preach. They spoke but it wasn’t true.
That can happen today. What can we do to avoid this error? We must get into the Word, study it and say only what it says. So many times preachers are guilty of wanting to say something. We go get a text that seems to say what we want, rip it out of context and preach it.
Preachers are famous for saying, “that will preach!” when we do not get the context but like what it says. I have made so many mistakes preaching culture, preaching what I heard, preaching what others preached without seeing what the Bible says.
Our people need to know what God says. They need the Bible opened and explained. It has the answers and we do not need our cute stories or fancy outlines, we need to hear the Bible.
Let’s be sure we see something before we preach. We can do that if we simply say what the Bible says, what always meant, what it would mean no matter when in history or what part of the world we are in!
