Conditional Obedience

Jeremiah 42:6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

How do you obey God? When do you obey God? Do we obey Him only when He tells us to do something that we would like to do?

This seems like a wild verse. We will obey God whether it be good or evil, whether we like what He says or not. But they do use the word evil.

Honestly, don’t you think that you sometimes think that obeying God might be evil or at least not something pleasing or that you want to do? Do you not wait to see what God wants instead of saying, I will just do what He wants me to do?

We tend to obey God when it feels good or seems profitable to us. That needs to change. God is always good and His will is always good. That doesn’t mean that it might not be hard sometimes and not appear to be good. But we can trust Him to only do what is best for us.

Should you change the way you obey Him? Should you tell Him that you will obey whether what He wants is good or evil, pleasing or displeasing, what you want or what you do not want?
