Jeremiah 36:23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
This is the story of one of the boldest men in the Bible. He had a copy of the Word of God in his hands. He showed no fear or respect. He took the different pages and cut them up and threw them into the fire. He nor his friends felt any fear or respect. It was just another book, just someone’s opinion.
As I read this story I wonder how we handle the Word of God. Are we in awe? Do we realize that God Himself talks to us through His Word? Do we realize that the Creator, Judge of all the Earth, God of Heaven is talking to us? Do we take it lightly or is it serious?
These men were Bible burners. We would never be guilty of that but we might have their attitude. If you do I hope today will be the day you repent of that attitude and come eagerly to God’s Word to listen and learn.
