Kevin started attending church at the age of 15, and was saved shortly thereafter. Before his 16th birthday, Kevin surrendered his life to preach and to do whatever the Lord wanted from him.
As he neared his high school graduation, Kevin faced a very tough decision, one that would ultimately impact the rest of his life. Colleges offered Kevin scholarships to play football, even some as much as $100,000, but Kevin knew serving the Lord was more important.
Kevin went on a visit to one college where coaches showed him what would be his locker and his jersey. There was extreme pressure for Kevin to make a verbal commitment to play, but Kevin knew serving the Lord was more important. As he lay in bed that night, Kevin felt an immense pressure. He knew everyone wanted him to play football, but the desire to serve God was too overwhelming for him to ignore.
He left a note for his mother that night, telling her that he had to go to Bible college. In spite of all the pressure to play sports, Kevin stayed true to serving the Lord, and after graduating college, studied under Pastor Austin Gardner in Peru for 3 months. Shortly thereafter, he was able to take a short term mission trip to South Africa to assist an already established missionary. It was on that same trip that the Lord confirmed in Kevin’s heart that He wanted him in South Africa.
