Nehemiah 2:3 And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
Nehemiah is very sad because he knows the great needs of the work of God. His sadness puts his life in danger but he just prays and trusts God to work in and through him.
Paul feels this same type of sadness when he thinks of the spiritual needs of Israel in Romans 9:2.
Should our hearts be sad as we consider the great spiritual needs around the world? So many people in need and so little is being done about it.
