2Kings 3:27 Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
The king of Moab rebels against Israel and decides to fight. When he cannot win the battle he takes things to extremes. He offers his son as a burnt offering. Can you imagine a man so twisted in his religion, his faith that he would sacrifice his son as a burnt offering.
Who knows why he did it. Israel regularly offers burnt offerings to the God of Heaven but always it is a lamb. The one time when one man was going to offer his son, Abraham, it was only a test. Genesis 22.
Be careful to be a faithful student of the Word of God. Be faithful to find out what God wants.
So that you know, today, the only sacrifice that is needed has already been offered. That sacrifice was Jesus on the cross of Calvary. Today we live and breathe in salvation thanks to His sacrifice.
We need no other sacrifice. We need only be grateful to Him for dying in our place.
