2Samuel 12:28 Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.
David has been in the palace. He has actually been living a very selfish life. Joab and the mighty men have been fighting and accomplishing great things by the power of God and for His glory.
Now the city is about to be taken. Instead of getting the credit and praise for the work he has done Joab calls for David and waits to seal the victory. He tells David to come and take the city so that it will go down in history as one of David’s accomplishments.
That is so unlike the majority of us. We want the credit. We fight for it. We get offended if someone else gets it.
Especially if the other person has been doing something so inappropriate as David has done, but not Joab.
What a lesson to think about! Talk about building your brother’s name, how does this one look?
