Joshua 17:14-15 And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto? And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.
We always think we deserve more than we get. The children of Joseph come to Joshua saying that they are a great people. They believe that God has greatly blessed them but Joshua doesn’t want to give them enough land.
Joshua’s answer is, if you are great then go get the land. Quick asking for more if you haven’t developed what you have already been given. It seems that we want it now and we want it easily. We do not want to pay the price for it.
We rob ourselves of so much blessing because we look for, want, and get angry because we do not have more and have it now. How much are we hurting ourselves and our family when instead of working with what we have been given we complain about not having more.
Could it be that you need to look around and see what to work on? Could it be that you need to go to the wood country and cut down the trees and develop the land? Could it be that you need to fight the giants that are on the land that belongs to you?
Let’s work on what we have. Do the job at hand and wait for God to give us more when He is ready!
