1Peter 2:16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
We are free in Christ. You have learned that we are saved by grace. We are not required to do anything. He saved us because He is good and not because we are good. All things are lawful for us. We are not under the law but under grace.
It is so wonderful to be free and know it. There is nothing that I can do to make Him love me more and there is nothing that I can do to make Him love me less. He loved me while I was still a sinner. He loved me first. My sins have all been forgiven, past, present, and future. He is good.
But we are never to use our liberty, our freedom as an excuse to do what is wrong or what doesn’t please Him. Some Christians seem to think that freedom from sin gives them an excuse to sin. Actually freedom from sin gives me an opportunity to obey Him.
We are His servants. We get to choose to obey. You really never can separate works from faith. We never work to be saved. But our faith does produce in us works that are pleasing to Him. We are free. We never need allow the devil to play with our mind making us think that God is a vengeful God seeking a way to punish us. We need never allow thoughts that would still our joy in Him.
But as well we would never seek an excuse to use our freedom as a cover up for evil. We will do right because we are right. It is just what is born in us.
So true grace and faith produce freedom. But freedom for the truly born again is never a cover up to do wrong.
