Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
A great truth that these hall of faith people learned was that we are just passing through this earth. They confessed that they were but strangers and pilgrims on this earth. This world was not their home. They were not staying here.
When a person travels away from home they stay in temporary housing such as a motel or guest house. They know that the place they are staying is not their own. They unpack and get comfortable but not too comfortable because they know that the next morning or in a few days they will be packing to leave again.
They realize that they do not have a permanent home away from home. Just the same as Christians we should learn the truth that this world is not our home. We are strangers and pilgrims. We are going home soon.
We should not get so attached to things here in this temporary world. The thing that hinders our giving to the Lord, our faithful attendance to church and His service is that we are too attached to the temporary place.
It all the things you have aren’t from your real home, you can’t take them with you, and are only hotel samples you will have a far easier time being simply a steward or manager of the temporary things.
Why do we allow temporary things to become more important than eternal things? Why do we not embrace and confess that this world is not our home we are just passing through?
We are strangers, foreigners, tourists-we don’t live here and we are not planning on immigrating!
