John 12:28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
Jesus knows that He will be crucified in just a very short time. His response is not how can I get out of this but Father glorify your name. Three things for us to consider today.
First, it was Jesus, the one who was set to suffer, who wanted God to glorify His name. Do I want God to glorify Himself in me and my life? Would I be begging God to take care of me instead of willingly submitting my life for His name to be glorified? It is my custom to usually complain and want out of trouble rather than seek to glorify God in the middle of the things going on in my life. I want a new heart and attitude about this. I have a new heart. I want to live out who I am in Him.
Second, the Father answers and says, I have glorified my name in the past. That is what it is all about. From the beginning of time until now the heart of God’s people is that His name will be glorified. In the past and always He glorifies Himself. He has a purpose in all that He allows in our lives. Since I know that He has always glorified His name maybe I should have confidence that He will do so again.
Third, God reassures Jesus that He will glorify His name again. Jesus is willing to suffer but if He does He simply wants to know that God will glorify His name in and through this. That should be our heart’s desire. Bring glory to the Father through whatever is happening in our lives.
There are hard times but God will use everyone of them for His glory. So look at all your life through that lens!
