Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
It is simply not enough to learn to call Him Lord. He is Lord, no doubt. But He wants us to use that title as though we understood what it means.
According to the dictionary the word Lord means:
a person who has authority, control, or power over others; a master, chief, or ruler.
a person who exercises authority from property rights; an owner of land, houses, etc.
The greek word has the following connotations:
might, power. Lord, master, owner. Also the NT Gr. equivalent for the OT Hebr. Jehovah.
Of a supreme lord, sovereign, e.g., the Roman emperor (Act_25:26); the heathen gods (1Co_8:5).
Of God as the supreme Lord and Sovereign of the universe
I don’t believe we need much of a definition to know what the word means. The question that is asked is are we treating Him like we are calling Him?
I am sure that we all “say” we believe that He is Lord! The question is do we seek His will to know how to honor Him and obey Him?
