Pollution of the worst kind

January 12, 2010 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

Jeremiah 34:16 But ye turned and polluted my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.

They polluted his name by ignoring His will. They did what they wanted to do in spite of knowing better. This word polluted is the word profaned or to take lightly, to abuse or treat with irreverence, to violate. I fear that we do that more often than we would like to think.

We give the world cause to think that even “saved people” do not respect the name of the Lord Jesus. We live in such a way that we cause others to mock our God. If we do not think that He is important enough to worship and honor, why should they?

In 2Samuel 12:14 David’s sin with Bathsheba was far worse because it gave the enemies of God an opportunity to mock God and His Word.

In Titus 2:3-5 the mature women in the church were to teach the young women certain things. One of the main motivations was so that the Word of God would not be mocked.

We need to remember that though we are forgiven for our sin we do not want to pollute His name. We do not want to give unbelievers a chance to mock Him.

So today take seriously God’s instructions and His will in your life.
