Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
The text is speaking here directly to the nation of Israel. God loved them with an everlasting, non ending love. He had drawn them to Himself with loving kindness.
We, too, are God’s people. He also loves us the same way. There are several great truths we should all take home from this verse.
His loving us was not a spur of the moment decision. It is not some fluke, a last minute thought. He has always loved us and He always will.
We do not deserve what He has done for us. He drew us. We didn’t come on our own. He has drawn us with His loving kindness. He has been good to us.
He is the God that does not change. His love is an everlasting love. There is security in that thought. I need not wonder if He will change His mind. I need not wonder if He will continue to love me.
He draws us with lovingkindness because we could not come on our own. It wasn’t you seeking Him but He was seeking us. We could not go to Him so He came to us.
How can we sin against such love? How can we take for granted what He has done for us? How can we not announce it from the highest hill top?
