Isaiah 37:14 And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
Hezekiah is under attack. He has received a letter telling him that he is about to be destroyed. Hezekiah knows exactly what to do with his worries and concerns. He takes it to the house of the Lord. He spreads it out before the Lord. He reads the letter to God and asks Him what He is going to do about it.
Hezekiah has been telling God’s people how great God is. He has been telling them that God will deliver them and that no other gods have the power to over throw the true God of Heaven. Hezekiah has been threatened but more than that His God has been mocked.
God will hear and answer the prayers that Hezekiah is praying. Hezekiah will experience the power of God on His life.
Now to the application for your life. You can take your problems, petitions, etc to the Lord and you should. You can ask God to work in your life and He will. However you need to remember that the main emphasis of this story is that God has been mocked. God will move to prove His power, His purposes, and His glory.
I have gone before God with the “letter” but the “letter” was really one of my own making. I had done foolish things that got me in trouble. I had spent when I shouldn’t spend. I had done things that were coming back to haunt me.
God has not always answered my prayers like I wanted but in all honesty I had a different story than Hezekiah. I had not been doing what I knew I should. I had been doing foolish things and God let me suffer through much of them so that I would learn not to do that again.
So prayer is not an escape from the consequences of my stupidity. It is however a great weapon against the foes of our God and His glory.
