Psalm 123:2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.The servant constantly looks at the hand of his or her master. They are waiting for directions. Which way do they want the servant to go. The servant will not need detailed instructions because they know their master. They know what they want, how they want it, and even when they want it. All they need is that last small hand movement that will tell them to leap into action. They also watch the hand of their master because from their master’s hand comes all of their provision and protection. When will they eat? What will they eat? Where will they sleep? What will they do today? Will they be bought or sold? All questions that the master answers. They watch him to know what he wants. They watch him waiting for his desire. They want to please him. Now as you meditate on the master servant relationship consider our relationship to our Lord. The Lord Jesus Christ is our master. We watch him. We want to know what He wants us to do. It is not a question of Him watching me to figure out what I want or need. It is not His duty to watch my hands and wait for my instruction. Rather it is my responsibility towards Him. Right now maybe you have needs. Do not look to Washington to see what their hands will do, watch the hands of your Master. Watch to see where He will direct you, what He will have you to do for a job. He will provide and protect. Watch the hands of your Master!
