Psalm 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
David reminds us that God has been very good to us. He says that we should not forget all of His benefits towards us. He then lists several that ought to be thought of and He should be thanked for.
He forgives us for all of our sins. Psalm 103:3. No greater benefit could be mentioned.
He heals all of our diseases-this refers to the weaknesses and sicknesses that are spiritual. That is the context. He forgives our sin, heals our diseases and redeems our life. So not only does He forgive our sin but He changes us, converts us, gives us strength and health to over come our sinfulness! Psalm 103:4
He buys us back or as one of the ladies in our Peruvian church said, He gives us back our dignity. Sin was destroying us. We were sold as slaves to sin. Psalm 103:4
He pours out His loving kindness and tender mercies all over us. What a different picture than many will have of our relationship to God through Jesus Christ. Psalm 103:4
He satisfies us. He meets our needs. He pours out good things on us and He renews our strength so that we can serve Him. Psalm 103:5
He doesn’t stay angry with us. He will discipline us but He is not hard to please. He isn’t the angry God you have thought He was. Psalm 103:9
We deserve far harsher treatment than we get. Our sins deserve great punishment but His mercy is so great. Psalm 103:10-11
He doesn’t even relate our sins to our person. He separates our sin from us as far as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12
He feels compassion for us as His children. He treats us like a Father. Psalm 103:13
He is always merciful. Psalm 103:17
What a good God we serve. How wonderful it is when we consider all the benefits that He has given us as His children.
So today no matter how rough it gets consider how good God has been to you and be grateful.
