Psalm 44:2-3 How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
Maybe one of the greatest realizations that we can have is that we didn’t do the good and powerful things in our lives! It was God that drove the heathen from the Promised Land. It was God that planted them in the Promised Land.
The psalmist says that they didn’t get the land by their own sword or their means. If you go read the book of Joshua it will sure sound like Israel did a lot of work to possess the Promised Land and they did. But notice it was really God that gave them the victory.
There was nothing about them that said that they should get the promised land. It wasn’t their effort but His grace that did the work. It was because He favored them.
Now ask yourself, why you are saved. It was nothing that you did but all that He did! You can never take credit for the way you changed your life, the way you converted yourself. You should never in any way try to think of your goodness, your works, or your efforts as having something to do with your salvation. It was and is the grace of God and His favor towards us.
Then might I say that if we have any success in the ministry. If we have been allowed to see souls saved, lives changed, a Sunday School class grow or whatever–it wasn’t us again.
It is not your intelligence, your hard work, your sword but it it God that brings the victory.
That simply leaves us with an attitude of gratitude knowing that we aren’t and we didn’t!
He favored us! Let’s praise His name.
